This Is Why Mercy For Animals Supports International Women’s Day

Julie Cappiello March 7, 2017
Tomorrow is International Women’s Day and the Day Without a Woman strike! Mercy For Animals is proud to join millions of individuals and organizations in supporting this important cause.
It is our core belief that all sentient beings deserve to be treated with dignity, equality, and respect. This is regardless of gender identity, race, sexual orientation, religion, country of origin—and of course, species.
Intersectionality is a vital part of the very fabric of the animal protection movement. It is why MFA was one of the first animal rights organizations to march in pride parades across the country.
Sadly, we still have a long way to go toward a just and equitable world. Women worldwide still experience great inequities. They are often less secure in their jobs and paid less than their male counterparts while suffering sexual harassment and discrimination.
MFA is honored to stand in solidarity with those striking for gender justice. Therefore, we are granting our entire staff an additional holiday in order to participate in tomorrow’s strike. We encourage other organizations to do the same.
No one is free when others are oppressed.
