Viewers “Traumatized” by Creepy Chicken Breast Recipe Video

A creepy new recipe video on TikTok has amassed over 16 million views and countless comments from confused viewers. The stop-motion video shows a seemingly living raw chicken breast slithering around a cutting board and preparing itself for human consumption.

In the video, the slimy chicken breast—which resembles a large slug—first peels a tomato and then carefully pulls the heads off six shrimp. This is all accompanied by a nauseating slurping sound effect. The breast then flattens itself, is cut into pieces, and is mashed together with other ingredients. The monster blob eventually crawls into a bowl, where it is formed into meatballs.

Responses to the video range from “this was traumatizing” and “I don’t like the chicken slug” to “the way the chicken sacrificed itself halfway through” and “this is why I don’t eat meat.” A number of comments seem to be reactions to the frightening “lifelike” quality of the chicken breast—something many people would rather not contemplate when they’re cooking or eating meat.

In fact, most people are horrified when they are reminded that the product on their plate comes from an animal. This can happen when the “wrong” animal part ends up in someone’s meal, such as when Facebook user Timothy Reeves posted a disturbing image of a chicken heart that he had found in his bucket from KFC. A spokesperson for KFC told the Daily Mail Australia that this was not a one-time incident:

Our chicken is hand-prepared and cooked fresh, but occasionally mistakes happen and organs are not removed when they should have been.

If “living” raw chicken breast and the occasional stray organ make your skin crawl, why not choose a kinder path? Not only are plant-based foods better for animals and the planet, but you don’t need to worry about the bodies they came from.
