sold in its stores would be cage-free by 2025. The move, which will spare countless hens a lifetime of suffering in tiny wire cages, follows an aggressive MFA campaign and petitions on Change.org that gathered more than 25,000 consumer signatures.

Other actions included leafleting at H-E-B locations in the U.S. and
Mexico, running online advertisements to inform consumers about the animal abuse in H-E-B’s supply chain, and coordinating parallel campaigns against H-E-B’s subsidiaries.

H-E-B’s statement is the latest in a
wave of cage-free egg commitments by scores of leading grocers, including Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway, and SUPERVALU. Additionally, more than 120 other
retailers, restaurants, foodservice companies, and food manufacturers have
pledged to go cage-free in the past year.
