According to The Guardian, the Northern Italian
city of Turin plans to go vegetarian.
Chiara Appendino, the new mayor, pledged this week to
promote vegetarian and vegan diets as a “priority in her administration.
Appendino is a member of the populist Five Star Movement
(M5S). The party’s new 62-page manifesto calls for meat-free and even
dairy-free living as a way to protect the environment, human health, and the
well-being of animals.
City officials are looking into setting up educational
projects in schools to teach students about animal welfare and nutrition.
Earlier this month, Luigi di Maio, deputy speaker of the
Italian parliament, celebrated his 30th birthday by indulging in a vegan
cake.
As individuals, the best thing you can do to protect the
environment and animals is to adopt a compassionate vegan lifestyle. For information
