A Washington Post article
highlights the dangers
of manure pits at factory farms.
Last year two Idaho dairy workers drowned in cow manure. Alberto
Navarro Munoz died of traumatic asphyxiation after his tractor tipped over into
a manure pit, and Ruperto Vazquez Carrera drowned
in a 20-acre manure lagoon. His body was found about 10 hours later.
In 2015 Randy Vasquez drowned in a manure lagoon while
strapped into a front loader at Riverview Ranch, a dairy in Mabton, Washington.
In 2013 Idaho alone reported three manure lagoon fatalities at dairy farms.
These disgusting stores of animal feces can span the surface
area of several football fields.
See for yourself.
Employees at all factory farms work in hazardous conditions.
BuzzFeed News reported last year that at processing plants owned by Tyson,
the world’s largest meat producer, an average
of one employee per month is injured by equipment and loses a finger or
limb.
The factory farming industry puts profits before the environment,
its workers, and the animals it confines,
mutilates, and kills.
The best thing we can do is to boycott this cruel and
destructive industry by switching to a compassionate vegan diet. Click here to get started.
